YouMe mobile app is a health tracker for a woman suffering from a high-risk pregnancy where she can keep track of her diet, exercise and blood, and sugar levels. The gynecologist can monitor her progress simultaneously and recommend changes accordingly.

RESEARCH AND INSIGHTS

6-8 % are high risk pregnancies

A high-risk pregnancy is one that threatens the health or life of the mother or her fetus and requires specialized care from specially trained providers.

I delved into user research to find out more about the women’s thoughts and feelings. Talking to doctors gave me an insight into some specifics about the needs of the women and the steps necessary to manage the condition.

1. Monitoring the diet and having a healthy lifestyle is of utmost importance.

aarti

“ It is not just about the regular check-ups and visits, but I need special counseling when it comes to eating a nutritious diet, gaining a proper amount of weight and avoiding risky substances or medications.”
- Aarti Richards (Patient)

2. Emotional well being and support are necessary to reduce the stress levels.

vanessa

“ I sometimes have an outburst of mixed emotions, and it makes my condition even worse. Sharing these thoughts, feelings, and concerns with family, friends, and women suffering from the similar condition give me an outlet and help to keep me informed and more in control.”
- Vanessa Liu (Patient)

3. Regular prenatal visits and specialist care help the healthcare provider monitor the women’s and baby’s health.

Robin

“In addition to the regular screening, specialized tests and frequent check-ups are a must in such condition. There is a high chance of developing complications such as high blood and sugar level. “
- Robin Ludwig (Gynecologist)

How might we help the women suffering from high-risk pregnancy manage and monitor their condition by keeping track of the dietary needs, exercise schedule, and other developing states?

PROPOSED SYSTEM

It is more than a mobile app, it is a connected health platform where:

1. The pregnant woman and her family are connected through the mobile app.
2. She is connected with other pregnant women through the forum (mobile app).
3. She is connected with the gynecologist through the YouMe app.

She is provided with a care package at intervals to keep track of her blood and sugar levels.

USER TESTING AND WIREFRAMING

Creating wireframes and testing them with the users helped me understand that there was a need to:

1. Group the dashboard content in a manner that they get a quick overview of every feature.
2. Detailed analysis to know more.
3. Need to share the progress and contact the doctor.

CONCEPTUAL MODEL

Mapping the user conceptual model after the first testing helped me define the interface concepts that a user needs to understand. Laying the components and identifying the relationship was significant.

FURTHER OPPORTUNITIES

1. Create user flows for other scenarios like:

  • How can the user enter her exercise schedule?

  • How will the system be smarter and provide her with the effective and efficient data?

  • How will the social community support look like?

2. Creating a more inclusive platform. Designing the doctor/ specialist/ gynecologist side application.
